News article, broken link

Post  Jonny on Wed Jul 08, 2009 10:39 pm

Hey Zandair, in your news post about The Path, the link provided doesn't work. The game sounds good, I've been looking for a good non-casual indie game but too many seem like they're just gimmicks. How long is the game?

Depends on how long you want it to take. You can explore the virtual forest to its fullest extent and get the most out of each character that you can, or you can walk around, find a few things, and then engage the character's personal 'wolf' the first chance you get.

It'll average around 6 hours.

Thanks for pointing the link out; I couldn't fix it (my HTML is rusty), but I provided the link.

I'm downloading the prologue thing now.

EDIT:

First time through I turned around and kept running down the road until I found a payphone, but was delighted to find the payphone put me back where I started. I felt so intellectual being a 12-year-old girl running around a haunted forest full of 144 weird flower-like objects, birds and the occasional abstract object demanding a different camera angle. All of a sudden I feel like heckling some incompetent FPS players, claiming their games are juvenile and tasteless, and recommending they play sophisticated video game adaptions of generic bedtime stories.

Just kidding. I might buy it, it looks interesting. But my debit card's out of money, got to refill it first.

I don't know what the prologue's like, I never played it.

There's a few things that might seem like a lousy attempt at gameplay, but they're really just there to guide the player along the experience. The flowers are just there to guide the player to explore parts of the forest they hadn't before (I think).
Also, after you finish playing each character, you get a screen displaying the number of objects you found, the length you walked, and whether or not you encountered the 'wolf'. It then gives you a ranking. This is more of a way of telling the player to get off the path and experience the game the way its meant to be experienced if they merely stayed on the path.
Finally, in the full game the payphone sends you back to the character selection room. I don't know why they'd keep it in the prologue...

I just read about the prologue. The game is MUCH better than the demo.
The characters have more personality, and offer their opinions on and interact with the random objects in the forest, etcetera, etcetera.
From what I've heard, I don't think I'd have bought the full game if I'd played the demo first. If you were able to tolerate it, I think you'd enjoy the game.

Alright, you sold me. I'll get it tonight or tomorrow. I'll tell you what I think of it then.

EDIT: Now downloading...

Spoiler:
It was.... weird. I didn't understand the ending, who is GiW, what does she represent and why was her wolf grandma?
